AWS credits for crypto and blockchain startups

Conditions applyLast checked 3 October 2026

Crypto and blockchain startups can reach up to $200,000 through an Activate Provider. Some uses in this niche are restricted, so check the rules below.

Crypto and blockchain startups pay for security and audit trails as much as for compute: encryption keys, logging, multi-AZ databases and strict network isolation add a fixed floor that most consumer apps don't have.

Does a crypto and blockchain company qualify?

  • Crypto mining is not allowed on promotional credits. Blockchain software companies can apply, but check AWS's credit terms first.
  • Your company is usually under 10 years old, pre-Series B for the Provider tier, and hasn't had Activate credits before.
  • Past the startup stage? Established crypto and blockchain companies can look at business and migration funding instead.
  • Nonprofit or researcher? The AWS Imagine Grant and Cloud Credit for Research are separate from Activate.

Questions

Is there a special AWS credit programme for crypto and blockchain startups?

No dedicated AWS programme for crypto and blockchain is listed right now. Standard AWS Activate applies: $1,000 (up to $5,000) for self-funded startups, up to $200,000 through an Activate Provider.

How much in AWS credits can a crypto and blockchain startup get?

Up to $200,000 through an Activate Provider, or $1,000 through Activate Founders.

Do AWS credits cover what a crypto and blockchain product runs on?

Usually yes. A typical setup (Managed Blockchain or EC2 nodes, DynamoDB for indexing, ECS for APIs) is covered by promotional credits. Marketplace purchases, support plans and taxes are not.

How long will credits last for a crypto and blockchain startup?

At about $500/month (MVP), $25,000 lasts around 50 months, though credits usually expire after 12 to 24 months.

Can I stay compliant while using AWS credits?

Yes. Credits don't change your compliance duties. Download AWS's PCI DSS attestation and SOC reports from AWS Artifact for your auditor. Credits never pay for audits or third-party compliance tools.

What if AWS rejects my crypto and blockchain application?

Try a different route: an Activate Provider, another niche programme, Google for Startups Cloud Program or Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub, or our partner match.
