Program
AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP)
Funding and credits for moving to AWS, in three phases: Assess, Mobilize, then Migrate & Modernize. It's usually run with an AWS Migration Competency Partner.
AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) is for established companies moving workloads to AWS, usually with an AWS partner. Scaled to your migration.

- Credits
- Yes, but paid to the AWS Partner, not the customer: partner cash funding at Assess and Mobilize (up to USD 2M on a USD 10M ARR opportunity, per the 2024 construct). Mobilize cash for large migrations is tied to early revenue milestones.

01 · Overview
A good fit if you are
- Companies leaving data centres or another cloud
- Teams with meaningful existing infrastructure spend
Not for
- Brand-new startups (use Activate)
- Tiny workloads
Timeline and terms
- Application window
- No public application. Engagement goes through an AWS account team or an AWS Migration Competency or Validated-stage partner, who submits a MAP fund request in the AWS Partner Funding Portal. The customer then signs a MAP agreement or Migration Plan.
- Program length
- Multi-phase (Assess, Mobilize, Migrate & Modernize). The length depends on the migration plan; no fixed term is published.
- Cash
- Yes, but paid to the AWS Partner, not the customer: partner cash funding at Assess and Mobilize (up to USD 2M on a USD 10M ARR opportunity, per the 2024 construct). Mobilize cash for large migrations is tied to early revenue milestones.
- Where
- Global. No country restrictions are published.
Amounts are based on the projected annual recurring AWS revenue (ARR) of the migration, with no fixed amount. AWS's July 2024 investment construct (AWS DC Summit 2024 partner deck): standard MAP (USD 500K-10M ARR) gives up to 5% of ARR as partner cash at Assess (max USD 75K), up to 20% of ARR as partner cash at Mobilize, and up to 25% of ARR in AWS credits at Migrate & Modernize. MAP Lite tiers (USD 1-100K and USD 100K-500K ARR) show about 15% of ARR in credits. Strategic Partner Incentives add credits or cash for greenfield, modernization, VMware, SAP/Oracle and database/analytics workloads. Opportunities above USD 10M ARR get custom deals. These figures are from a slide whose table layout is partly ambiguous; confirm current rates with an AWS account team or partner.
What changed recently
2026-06-05
MAP user guide added IAM principal tagging as the recommended way to tag Amazon Bedrock and Bedrock AgentCore workloads for MAP spend tracking. Source
2025-03 to 2026-10 (between Wayback snapshot 2025-03-13 and the live page)
MAP landing page redesigned. The explicit 'AWS investments, in the form of AWS service credits or partner investments' text was replaced with general 'financial investments', and dedicated Microsoft, VMware, SAP and mainframe tracks were added. Source
2024-11-18
For MAP 2.0 terms signed after 2024-11-18, the map-migrated cost-allocation tag is activated automatically in the payer account (it wasn't for terms signed 2022-11-01 to 2024-11-18). Source
2024-07-01
MAP incentives restructured: partner cash for every deal over USD 100K (Assess up to 5% of ARR, max USD 75K; Mobilize up to 20% of ARR), MAP scaled to USD 10M ARR, customer 1:1 match no longer required, Mobilize cash tied to revenue milestones, one consolidated approval, new Strategic Partner Incentives (Greenfield, Modernization, VMware), and a new MAP template in the AWS Partner Funding Portal. 02 · Eligibility
Hard eligibility rules
You must
- A qualifying migration of existing workloads (on-premises or another cloud) to AWS, sized by projected ARR (the 2024 construct starts at USD 1 ARR for MAP Lite and covers deals over USD 100K with partner cash)
- Work through an AWS account team and/or an AWS Migration Competency Partner or Validated-stage partner (MAP funding is available to those partners)
- Signed MAP agreement or Migration Plan with an MPE ID (project number)
- Migrated resources tagged with the exact 'map-migrated' tag key using the MPE ID
- Migrations under the management (payer) account named in the plan and its linked accounts
- Cost Explorer enabled; IAM permissions to tag
- Only resources launched after the agreement acceptance date earn incentives
Excluded
- Existing AWS resources (only resources launched after the agreement date are eligible; pre-existing S3 buckets need baselining and an amendment to the agreement)
- Untagged or wrongly tagged resources (the tag is case-sensitive)
- Services not on the MAP Included Services List
Have this ready before you apply
- Migration inventory and discovery data (for example Migration Evaluator), plus a TCO/business case (Migration Portfolio Assessment)
- Migration Readiness Assessment results (Assess phase)
- Projected post-migration ARR
- Signed MAP agreement or Migration Plan with the MPE ID and the payer account(s)
- For existing S3 buckets: ARNs and baseline spend
- Partner statement of work or fund request (submitted by the partner in the AWS Partner Funding Portal)
03 · How to apply
How to apply
- 1
Talk to AWS or a Migration Competency Partner about your migration.
- 2
Run an assessment of your readiness and costs.
- 3
Sign a MAP agreement and get your MPE ID.
- 4
Tag migrated resources with map-migrated so the incentives are counted.
What catches founders out
- Untagged resources don't earn incentives. Set up tagging before you migrate.
- Resources that were already on AWS usually don't count.
What founders report Show
Summarised from public founder posts. Anecdotal, not official AWS policy.
Gotchas
- MAP is reached through an account manager or partner, not a public form. Assessment tooling (Migration Readiness Assessment, Migration Portfolio Assessment) is partner-run
- A SaaS company reported about 2 years of MAP credits worth roughly 25% of spend on migrated services, plus about USD 60K toward AWS consultants (2023)
- Users note the commitments expected alongside MAP/EDP are sizable
- Confusion about how 'post-migration ARR' is calculated and what happens if estimates change between phases (re:Post question)
- Partner blog (Adaptavist) describes the same structure: about 5% Assess, about 20% Mobilize, 15-25% Migrate & Modernize
04 · Credits & stacking
What the credits cover
Covered
- Services on the MAP Included Services List (PDF)
- Amazon Bedrock supported foundation models (eligible for MAP credits; IAM principal tagging recommended since June 2026)
- Amazon EC2 Dedicated Hosts
- Specialised workloads: Windows, VMware, SAP, mainframe, databases, Amazon Connect (some baseline services such as VMware Cloud on AWS, Amazon Connect and AWS Managed Services are handled without tags)
Not covered
- Services not on the MAP Included Services List
- Untagged resources and resources predating the MAP agreement
- The standard AWS Promotional Credit exclusions also apply to MAP credits
Stacking with other credits
Can combine with
- AWS Private Pricing / Enterprise Discount Program (EDP) commitments (anecdotal; commonly negotiated together)
- AWS Optimization and Licensing Assessment (linked from the MAP page)
Can't combine with
- Other AWS promotional offers on the same usage, unless AWS authorises it (Promotional Credit Terms s.6)
Lifetime cap: No lifetime cap published. The 2024 construct caps partner cash at about USD 2M (on USD 10M ARR); larger opportunities get custom deals.

Questions
Is MAP for startups?
It's built for migrations of existing workloads, so it usually suits established companies.
Why does MAP need tags?
AWS uses the map-migrated tag to measure migrated usage and calculate incentives.
Prices and credit amounts are estimates and may change. Check AWS for current terms.
