01 · How AWS Amplify Hosting pricing works

What you pay for

  • Build and deploy per minute by build instance size (standard $0.01/minute).
  • Hosting: storage $0.023/GB-month, data transfer out $0.15/GB, SSR requests $0.30 per million and SSR duration $0.20 per GB-hour.
  • Firewall (WAF) integration $15 per app per month plus WAF charges; backend services billed separately.

Common cost traps

  • Amplify data transfer ($0.15/GB) is higher than CloudFront pay-as-you-go rates.
  • Every branch with auto-build runs full builds on each push.
  • Unoptimised SSR pages bill duration on every request.

Ways to reduce cost

  • Disable auto-build for inactive branches and use build caching.
  • Cache SSR responses and set long cache headers for static assets.
  • For very high traffic static sites, compare with S3 + CloudFront.

Free Tier & account eligibility

Free Tier depends on account age. Accounts created on or after 15 July 2025 get a $100 sign-up credit plus up to $100 more for completing onboarding activities; on the Free plan these last 6 months (or until used up), on the Paid plan unused Free Tier credits stay usable for 12 months from sign-up. Accounts created before 15 July 2025 keep the legacy Free Tier (12-month offers plus always-free offers). Always-free offers apply on both plans. Legacy accounts (12 months): 1,000 build minutes, 5 GB stored, 15 GB served, 500,000 SSR requests and 100 GB-hours of SSR duration per month. New-plan accounts pay from Free Tier credits.

02 · AWS credits & runway

Do credits cover AWS Amplify Hosting?

Amplify Hosting build minutes, storage, data transfer, SSR requests and duration and the WAF integration fee are eligible usage and are offset by credits; backend resources (AppSync, Cognito, DynamoDB, Lambda) bill under their own services. General rules: credits only offset charges from the billing cycle in which they were applied onward (never past bills), they apply only to the services listed on the credit in Billing and Cost Management > Credits, they expire on the date shown there, and accounts on the AWS Free plan cannot receive Activate credits until they upgrade to the Paid plan.

  • AWS Enterprise Support, Enterprise On-Ramp, Unified Operations, resold support and partner-led support.
  • Amazon Route 53 domain name registration and transfer fees.
  • Taxes (sales, use, VAT and similar), AWS Professional Services, Training and Certification, Mechanical Turk, AWS Managed Services, and any use for cryptocurrency mining.
