Amazon Braket pricing calculator

QPU, Simulator, and Hybrid Job Costs. Estimate your costs using AWS list prices.

01 · How Amazon Braket pricing works

What you pay for

  • QPU on-demand: $0.30 per task plus a per-shot fee that varies by device (from $0.000425 on Rigetti Cepheus to $0.08 on IonQ Forte).
  • Braket Direct reservations: hourly rate per device ($2,500-$7,000/hour), bookable in 1-hour blocks, free cancellation up to 48 hours ahead.
  • Managed simulators SV1/DM1 ($0.075/min) and TN1 ($0.275/min), per millisecond with a 3-second minimum.
  • Hybrid Jobs classical instances per minute, plus job storage; notebooks billed by SageMaker; results stored in S3.

Common cost traps

  • IonQ error mitigation needs at least 2,500 shots per task, so a single mitigated task on Forte costs about $200.
  • Per-shot fees dominate quickly: 10,000 shots on a $0.08/shot device is $800 per task.
  • Reservations bill for the booked hours whether or not you use them, unless cancelled 48 hours ahead.
  • GPU Hybrid Jobs instances (for example ml.p3.8xlarge at about $14.69/hour) and forgotten notebooks add classical compute cost.

Ways to reduce cost

  • Debug on the free local simulator, then SV1, and only then on a QPU.
  • Use the minimum shot count that gives a statistically useful answer, and pick the cheapest device that fits the algorithm.
  • Batch experiments into reservation windows only when on-demand queueing or volume makes it worth it.
  • Stop notebooks and set S3 lifecycle rules on result buckets.

Free Tier & account eligibility

Free Tier depends on account age. Accounts created on or after 15 July 2025 get a $100 sign-up credit plus up to $100 more for completing onboarding activities; on the Free plan these last 6 months (or until used up), on the Paid plan unused Free Tier credits stay usable for 12 months from sign-up. Accounts created before 15 July 2025 keep the legacy Free Tier (12-month offers plus always-free offers). Always-free offers apply on both plans. Braket has its own Free Tier offer: one hour of managed simulator time (SV1, DM1, TN1) per month for the first 12 months of using Braket. AWS still describes this as a 12-month offer; whether it applies to accounts on the new credit-based plans should be checked. The local simulator in the SDK is always free.

02 · AWS credits & runway

Do credits cover Amazon Braket?

Braket quantum tasks and shots, reservations (Braket Direct), managed simulators and Hybrid Jobs instances are billed by AWS and are offset by credits that list Braket or apply to all eligible services. Check that research or Activate credits do not exclude Braket by name. General rules: credits only offset charges from the billing cycle in which they were applied onward (never past bills), they apply only to the services listed on the credit in Billing and Cost Management > Credits, they expire on the date shown there, and accounts on the AWS Free plan cannot receive Activate credits until they upgrade to the Paid plan.

Excluded charges & conditions
  • Braket Direct expert-advice offerings, which AWS says are billed separately from Braket; confirm coverage before relying on credits.
  • Managed notebooks are billed as Amazon SageMaker usage, so they draw on credits only if SageMaker is covered.
  • Upfront payments for Savings Plans and Reserved Instances (All Upfront, and the upfront part of Partial Upfront). The recurring hourly fee of a No Upfront commitment is billed as normal usage and can be offset.
  • AWS Marketplace charges (Activate credits make an exception for third-party foundation models used through Amazon Bedrock).
  • AWS Enterprise Support, Enterprise On-Ramp, Unified Operations, resold support and partner-led support.
  • Amazon Route 53 domain name registration and transfer fees.
  • Taxes (sales, use, VAT and similar), AWS Professional Services, Training and Certification, Mechanical Turk, AWS Managed Services, and any use for cryptocurrency mining.

04 · Questions

Amazon Braket pricing FAQ

What does one QPU task cost?

$0.30 per task plus shots x the device per-shot price. 1,000 shots on IonQ Forte is $0.30 + $80 = $80.30; on Rigetti Cepheus it is $0.30 + $0.425.

Is the simulator free?

The local simulator in the Braket SDK is free. Managed SV1, DM1 and TN1 have one free hour per month during your first 12 months of Braket use, then per-minute pricing.

Can credits pay for a Braket Direct reservation?

Reservations are Braket usage billed by AWS, so credits that cover Braket should apply. Expert advice is billed separately; check before booking.

Where are notebook charges shown?

Braket notebooks run on SageMaker and appear under SageMaker on the bill, not under Braket.
