Amazon SageMaker (Unified Studio) pricing calculator
Unified Studio Notebooks & Storage. Estimate your costs using AWS list prices.
Estimates from AWS list prices, not an AWS quote. Discounts, taxes and credit terms may affect your bill.
01 · How Amazon SageMaker (Unified Studio) pricing works
What you pay for
- Unified Studio notebook/project compute per instance-hour (sc.* types), plus notebook storage per GB-month.
- Every engine used from the studio is billed by its own service: Athena queries, Redshift Serverless RPUs, EMR Serverless, Glue jobs, SageMaker AI training and endpoints, Bedrock tokens.
- SageMaker Catalog/DataZone features, S3 storage and data transfer.
Common cost traps
- The studio itself is cheap; costs come from the engines each project starts.
- Notebook compute keeps billing while sessions are left open.
- Projects can create Redshift Serverless workgroups or EMR applications that bill until removed.
Ways to reduce cost
- Set idle timeouts on notebook compute.
- Use project profiles to restrict expensive instance types and engines.
- Tag projects and use Budgets per project.
Free Tier & account eligibility
Free Tier depends on account age. Accounts created on or after 15 July 2025 get a $100 sign-up credit plus up to $100 more for completing onboarding activities; on the Free plan these last 6 months (or until used up), on the Paid plan unused Free Tier credits stay usable for 12 months from sign-up. Accounts created before 15 July 2025 keep the legacy Free Tier (12-month offers plus always-free offers). Always-free offers apply on both plans. No separate Free Tier for Unified Studio in the data; underlying services keep their own Free Tier rules. New-plan accounts can pay from Free Tier credits.
02 · AWS credits & runway
Do credits cover Amazon SageMaker (Unified Studio)?
SageMaker Unified Studio compute (notebook and project instances), storage and the underlying services it uses (SageMaker AI, Athena, Redshift, EMR, Glue, Bedrock) are AWS usage and are offset by credits. General rules: credits only offset charges from the billing cycle in which they were applied onward (never past bills), they apply only to the services listed on the credit in Billing and Cost Management > Credits, they expire on the date shown there, and accounts on the AWS Free plan cannot receive Activate credits until they upgrade to the Paid plan.
Check my creditsExcluded charges & conditions
- Marketplace-sold models or data products used from the studio.
- Upfront payments for Savings Plans and Reserved Instances (All Upfront, and the upfront part of Partial Upfront). The recurring hourly fee of a No Upfront commitment is billed as normal usage and can be offset.
- AWS Marketplace charges (Activate credits make an exception for third-party foundation models used through Amazon Bedrock).
- AWS Enterprise Support, Enterprise On-Ramp, Unified Operations, resold support and partner-led support.
- Amazon Route 53 domain name registration and transfer fees.
- Taxes (sales, use, VAT and similar), AWS Professional Services, Training and Certification, Mechanical Turk, AWS Managed Services, and any use for cryptocurrency mining.
Illustrative credit runway
Single-service examples from the supplied data, not your calculator result. Months = credit amount ÷ monthly cost, before credit expiry. Credits can expire before these theoretical months are used; coverage and other AWS services can shorten runway.
| Usage profile | Monthly estimate | $10,000 | $25,000 | $100,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small | $21.60 | 463.0 mo. | 1,157.4 mo. | 4,629.6 mo. |

| Large | $2,463.78 | 4.1 mo. | 10.1 mo. | 40.6 mo. |
Small profile assumptions
2 users on sc.t3.medium 160 h each, 50 GB notebook storage | sc.t3.medium: 320 hours x $0.05 = $16.00; Notebook storage gp3: 50 GB-month x $0.112 = $5.60 | Total ~$21.60/month, us-east-1 on-demand list prices, before Free Tier, taxes and support.
Medium profile assumptions
6 users on sc.m5.xlarge 160 h each, 300 GB storage | sc.m5.xlarge: 960 hours x $0.23 = $220.80; Notebook storage gp3: 300 GB-month x $0.112 = $33.60 | Total ~$254.40/month, us-east-1 on-demand list prices, before Free Tier, taxes and support.
Large profile assumptions
20 users: 15 on sc.m5.2xlarge and 5 on sc.g5.xlarge, 160 h each, 2 TB storage | sc.m5.2xlarge: 2,400 hours x $0.461 = $1,106.40; sc.g5.xlarge: 800 hours x $1.41 = $1,128.00; Notebook storage gp3: 2,048 GB-month x $0.112 = $229.38 | Total ~$2,463.78/month, us-east-1 on-demand list prices, before Free Tier, taxes and support.
