Amazon Redshift pricing calculator
Provisioned RA3 & Serverless. Estimate your costs using AWS list prices.

01 · How Amazon Redshift pricing works
What you pay for
- Provisioned: per node-hour by RA3 node type ($0.543 ra3.large to $13.04 ra3.16xlarge in us-east-1); reserved nodes for 1 or 3 years.
- Serverless: $0.375 per RPU-hour, billed per second with a 60-second minimum, only while queries run.
- Redshift Managed Storage $0.024/GB-month; Spectrum $5/TB scanned; concurrency scaling per second beyond free credits; snapshots and cross-Region copies.
Common cost traps
- Provisioned clusters bill 24/7 unless paused.
- Serverless base capacity set too high multiplies RPU-hours for every query.
- Concurrency scaling beyond the free daily credits is billed per second at on-demand rates.
- Manual snapshots are kept and billed until deleted.
Ways to reduce cost
- Use Serverless for intermittent workloads and set usage limits.
- Pause provisioned clusters outside working hours; buy No Upfront reserved nodes for 24/7 clusters.
- Keep cold history in S3 and query it with Spectrum.
- Use materialised views and result caching to cut repeated work.
Free Tier & account eligibility
Free Tier depends on account age. Accounts created on or after 15 July 2025 get a $100 sign-up credit plus up to $100 more for completing onboarding activities; on the Free plan these last 6 months (or until used up), on the Paid plan unused Free Tier credits stay usable for 12 months from sign-up. Accounts created before 15 July 2025 keep the legacy Free Tier (12-month offers plus always-free offers). Always-free offers apply on both plans. Redshift offers free trials rather than a Free Tier: new Redshift customers have been offered a Serverless trial credit (for example $300 over 90 days) or a 2-month DC2.large trial. Check eligibility on the pricing page. New-plan accounts can also pay from Free Tier credits.
02 · AWS credits & runway
Do credits cover Amazon Redshift?
Redshift provisioned nodes (and the hourly part of No Upfront reserved nodes), Serverless RPU-hours, Redshift Managed Storage, Spectrum, concurrency scaling, snapshots and data sharing are eligible usage and are offset by credits. General rules: credits only offset charges from the billing cycle in which they were applied onward (never past bills), they apply only to the services listed on the credit in Billing and Cost Management > Credits, they expire on the date shown there, and accounts on the AWS Free plan cannot receive Activate credits until they upgrade to the Paid plan.
Check my creditsExcluded charges & conditions
- Upfront payments for Savings Plans and Reserved Instances (All Upfront, and the upfront part of Partial Upfront). The recurring hourly fee of a No Upfront commitment is billed as normal usage and can be offset.
- AWS Marketplace charges (Activate credits make an exception for third-party foundation models used through Amazon Bedrock).
- AWS Enterprise Support, Enterprise On-Ramp, Unified Operations, resold support and partner-led support.
- Amazon Route 53 domain name registration and transfer fees.
- Taxes (sales, use, VAT and similar), AWS Professional Services, Training and Certification, Mechanical Turk, AWS Managed Services, and any use for cryptocurrency mining.
Illustrative credit runway
Single-service examples from the supplied data, not your calculator result. Months = credit amount ÷ monthly cost, before credit expiry. Credits can expire before these theoretical months are used; coverage and other AWS services can shorten runway.
| Usage profile | Monthly estimate | $10,000 | $25,000 | $100,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small | $364.80 | 27.4 mo. | 68.5 mo. | 274.1 mo. |
| Medium | $1,708.86 | 5.9 mo. | 14.6 mo. | 58.5 mo. |
| Large | $10,973.28 | 0.9 mo. | 2.3 mo. | 9.1 mo. |
Small profile assumptions
Redshift Serverless averaging 8 RPUs for 4 hours/day, 200 GB managed storage | Serverless RPU-hours: 960 RPU-hours x $0.375 = $360.00; Managed storage: 200 GB-month x $0.024 = $4.80 | Total ~$364.80/month, us-east-1 on-demand list prices, before Free Tier, taxes and support.
Medium profile assumptions
2 x ra3.xlplus nodes 24/7, 4 TB managed storage, 5 TB Spectrum scans | ra3.xlplus nodes: 1,460 node-hours x $1.086 = $1,585.56; Managed storage: 4,096 GB-month x $0.024 = $98.30; Spectrum scanned: 5 TB x $5 = $25.00 | Total ~$1,708.86/month, us-east-1 on-demand list prices, before Free Tier, taxes and support.
Large profile assumptions
4 x ra3.4xlarge 24/7, 40 TB managed storage, 20 TB snapshots beyond free | ra3.4xlarge nodes: 2,920 node-hours x $3.26 = $9,519.20; Managed storage: 40,960 GB-month x $0.024 = $983.04; Snapshot storage: 20,480 GB-month x $0.023 = $471.04 | Total ~$10,973.28/month, us-east-1 on-demand list prices, before Free Tier, taxes and support.
04 · Questions
Amazon Redshift pricing FAQ
Serverless or provisioned?
Serverless bills only while queries run ($0.375 per RPU-hour here), which suits intermittent use. Provisioned RA3 clusters are cheaper for steady 24/7 load, especially with reserved nodes.
Is concurrency scaling free?
Each cluster earns free concurrency-scaling credits (one hour per day per AWS documentation); usage beyond that is billed per second.
Do credits cover reserved nodes?
The hourly part of No Upfront reservations, yes; upfront payments, no.
Is there a free trial?
AWS has offered free trials for new Redshift customers (a Serverless credit or a DC2.large trial). Check the current offer.

Verification notes
- Redshift free trial amounts and the concurrency-scaling free credit rule should be re-checked.
