01 · How Amazon Timestream pricing works
What you pay for
- Timestream for InfluxDB: instance hours (Single-AZ, Multi-AZ, cluster) plus provisioned storage.
- Timestream for LiveAnalytics: writes ingested per GB, memory store per GB-hour, magnetic store per GB-month, queries per Timestream Compute Unit hour.
- Data transfer and backups.
Common cost traps
- Memory store retention is billed per GB-hour and is much more expensive than magnetic; long memory retention multiplies cost.
- Query TCUs bill for the compute used by every dashboard refresh.
- InfluxDB Multi-AZ doubles the instance price.
Ways to reduce cost
- Keep memory-store retention to what real-time queries need.
- Batch writes and use multi-measure records to cut ingestion.
- Lower dashboard refresh rates and use scheduled queries for rollups.
Free Tier & account eligibility
Free Tier depends on account age. Accounts created on or after 15 July 2025 get a $100 sign-up credit plus up to $100 more for completing onboarding activities; on the Free plan these last 6 months (or until used up), on the Paid plan unused Free Tier credits stay usable for 12 months from sign-up. Accounts created before 15 July 2025 keep the legacy Free Tier (12-month offers plus always-free offers). Always-free offers apply on both plans. No ongoing Timestream Free Tier in this data; new-plan accounts can pay from Free Tier credits.
02 · AWS credits & runway
Do credits cover Amazon Timestream?
Timestream for InfluxDB instances and storage, and Timestream for LiveAnalytics ingestion, storage and query compute, are eligible usage and are offset by credits. General rules: credits only offset charges from the billing cycle in which they were applied onward (never past bills), they apply only to the services listed on the credit in Billing and Cost Management > Credits, they expire on the date shown there, and accounts on the AWS Free plan cannot receive Activate credits until they upgrade to the Paid plan.
Check my creditsExcluded charges & conditions
- Upfront payments for Savings Plans and Reserved Instances (All Upfront, and the upfront part of Partial Upfront). The recurring hourly fee of a No Upfront commitment is billed as normal usage and can be offset.
- AWS Marketplace charges (Activate credits make an exception for third-party foundation models used through Amazon Bedrock).
- AWS Enterprise Support, Enterprise On-Ramp, Unified Operations, resold support and partner-led support.
- Amazon Route 53 domain name registration and transfer fees.
- Taxes (sales, use, VAT and similar), AWS Professional Services, Training and Certification, Mechanical Turk, AWS Managed Services, and any use for cryptocurrency mining.
Illustrative credit runway
Single-service examples from the supplied data, not your calculator result. Months = credit amount ÷ monthly cost, before credit expiry. Credits can expire before these theoretical months are used; coverage and other AWS services can shorten runway.
| Usage profile | Monthly estimate | $10,000 | $25,000 | $100,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small | $87.60 | 114.2 mo. | 285.4 mo. | 1,141.6 mo. |
| Medium | $348.94 | 28.7 mo. | 71.6 mo. | 286.6 mo. |
| Large | $1,924.80 | 5.2 mo. | 13.0 mo. | 52.0 mo. |
Small profile assumptions
Timestream for InfluxDB, 1 x db.influx.medium Single-AZ 24/7 | db.influx.medium Single-AZ: 730 hours x $0.12 = $87.60 | Total ~$87.60/month, us-east-1 on-demand list prices, before Free Tier, taxes and support.
Medium profile assumptions
InfluxDB db.influx.large Multi-AZ 24/7 | db.influx.large Multi-AZ: 730 hours x $0.478 = $348.94 | Total ~$348.94/month, us-east-1 on-demand list prices, before Free Tier, taxes and support.
Large profile assumptions
LiveAnalytics (existing customers): 500 GB ingested, 50 GB memory store, 5 TB magnetic, 400 TCU-hours of queries | Ingestion: 500 GB x $0.5 = $250.00; Memory store: 36,500 GB-hours x $0.036 = $1,314.00; Magnetic store: 5,120 GB-month x $0.03 = $153.60; Query compute: 400 TCU-hours x $0.518 = $207.20 | Total ~$1,924.80/month, us-east-1 on-demand list prices, before Free Tier, taxes and support.
04 · Questions
Amazon Timestream pricing FAQ
Which Timestream should I use?
Timestream for InfluxDB runs managed InfluxDB on instances you size. AWS has closed Timestream for LiveAnalytics to new customers, so new projects should plan on InfluxDB.
How is LiveAnalytics billed?
By GB ingested, GB-hours in the memory store, GB-months in the magnetic store and query compute in TCU-hours.
Does InfluxDB Multi-AZ cost double?
Yes, in this data db.influx.large is $0.239/hour Single-AZ and $0.478 Multi-AZ.
Do credits cover Timestream?
Yes, both engines are eligible usage.

Verification notes
- Timestream for LiveAnalytics availability to new customers (closed since mid-2025 per AWS announcements) should be re-checked; the large profile assumes an existing customer.
- InfluxDB storage charges are not included in the runway.
- Runway prices come from the calculator repository snapshot rate card timestream (no AWS Price List mapping in the build). Confirm the main unit prices on https://aws.amazon.com/timestream/pricing/ before publishing.
