01 · How Amazon QuickSight pricing works

What you pay for

  • Per-user subscriptions: Author $24, Author Pro $40, Reader $3, Reader Pro $20 per month (us-east-1, Enterprise edition); annual author pricing is lower.
  • Account infrastructure fee ($250/month) when Pro (generative BI) users are enabled.
  • SPICE capacity beyond the 10 GB included per author at $0.38/GB-month; alerts, paginated reports and embedded sessions/capacity pricing.

Common cost traps

  • Enabling any Pro user triggers the $250/month infrastructure fee.
  • Readers who are provisioned but inactive may still bill depending on the pricing model in use.
  • SPICE refreshes from Athena or Redshift add query costs there.

Ways to reduce cost

  • Give Pro only to users who need generative features.
  • Remove inactive users and review SPICE usage.
  • Use incremental SPICE refreshes and schedule them sensibly.

Free Tier & account eligibility

Free Tier depends on account age. Accounts created on or after 15 July 2025 get a $100 sign-up credit plus up to $100 more for completing onboarding activities; on the Free plan these last 6 months (or until used up), on the Paid plan unused Free Tier credits stay usable for 12 months from sign-up. Accounts created before 15 July 2025 keep the legacy Free Tier (12-month offers plus always-free offers). Always-free offers apply on both plans. QuickSight has offered a 30-day free trial for new accounts (for a limited number of authors and readers) rather than an ongoing Free Tier. New-plan accounts can pay from Free Tier credits.

02 · AWS credits & runway

Do credits cover Amazon QuickSight?

QuickSight author and reader subscriptions (including Pro tiers), the account infrastructure fee, SPICE capacity, alerts and paginated reports are billed by AWS and are offset by credits that cover QuickSight. General rules: credits only offset charges from the billing cycle in which they were applied onward (never past bills), they apply only to the services listed on the credit in Billing and Cost Management > Credits, they expire on the date shown there, and accounts on the AWS Free plan cannot receive Activate credits until they upgrade to the Paid plan.
